A quick word on making up the Calcutta

In my opinion, the best calcutta format is the one we will be using in Peoria next month, where the winning bidder gets to make up the team, choosing one player from column A (seeded players) and 2 from column B. There is tremendous incentive to win the bid so you can put yourself on the team you want, or make up the team you think best.

In a more traditional auction, I believe it would be more exciting to draw up teams completely randomly as that clearly will result in some lopsided teams, and that will greatly increase the bidding and excitement of the auction---at the beginning until the best teams are gone.

When you are left with just a few teams, and the bidding is likely to be very low, then you put them in a bag together, or combine the last 4 teams into double teams, in order to create more interest (and not embarrass anyone by being the last team picked for a very low price).

This would take the burden off the directors to seed players or risk "insulting" anyone by not seeding them, and I believe would actually increase the revenue, interest, and excitement of the auction.

The current goal seems to be to try to balance the teams, and if you truly did that, what's the point of buying anyone? The closer you come to balancing the teams, the LESS interested I am in buying anyone.
