Dropping Takes Vs. A Weaker Player

Obviously without a position and without an estimate of the magnitude of skill difference and without knowing whether your judgment of ND/T was in fact correct, and if so, by how much, the answer is most definitely "Maybe".
But let me answer a question with a question. Why in the world would you play a weaker player, try to complicate the position, get yourself a well timed backgame where you have great winning chances and are likely to outplay your opponent, get to a position where your opponent made an error by doubling too early, and think "now that I'm about to get my game winning shot, this would be a good time to give up a point"?
Give away points in borderline races and other mindless positions in which you are a dog and maybe have gammon risk or there is a high cube value. But if you're petrified of losing a gammon in a position where you have substantial winning chances and lots of complication and difficult decisions to come, you will piss away as much equity as your opponent. A weak player can still smell blood and know how to attack if you show weakness.
