Dropping Takes Vs. A Weaker Player

To take this one step further, in an identical score and cube level situation against a weaker opponent, it can be correct to drop a take in one position and also correct to take a pass in another position.
As Jake points out, your chance of losing the match if you pass is less against a weaker opponent is than against an equal opponent. And that will change your takepoint in the current game, since all of the match equities have changed. Lets say it changes the takepoint from 25% to 27%. In a mindless race where you are winning 26%, it would be a take against equal competition, but a pass against the fish. However, lets say that instead of a mindless race, it is a very complicated position which you can expect to win only 24% of the time against an equal player. With your skill advantage, however, you might actually expect to win the position 28% of the time against the fish. That would turn a pass into a take.
