Dropping Takes Vs. A Weaker Player

Personally, I am waiting for that book to enter the public domain.
The checker on the 6-point is a good example for illustrative purposes (because we know it's exactly borderline), but not that challenging to implement in practice. What I find most challenging is to pass a close take in a skill-free position; it's annoying to possess the mathematical skill to compute that the position is a take, and then pass anyway!
What you see more of in practice is good players taking positions that are actually passes because they feel they can outplay the opponent in the game at hand. Sometimes they're right, if it's a close pass, but more often than not they're simply giving equity away. And then of course, we can ask if they truly are a good player!
