Yeah, PDAs could be a cheap platform to develop this thing on. The only issue I see is ease of use: you'll have to click on a small button (when we know well that some BG players really like to hammer that time button) and readability of the display (for both players) may be bad.

Maybe an external device with the 4 (solid) buttons, to be plugged into an iPhone. Call it iGammon, make it shiny white and classy and sell it (buttons box + software) for 50$. It gives you a real reason to buy an iPhone :)

P.S. Have the button box have two cables so that two different iPhones can be linked at the same time.
