In Response To: Why so much debate over Opening Rolls? (Timothy Chow)

As a player, I am grateful that so few seriously study the openings. All I can say is "Thank you!" When I open 32D, and my opponent rolls 33, it isn't a .0100 error that I usually see. How many readers know what is correct and why without checking? Does anyone know how big an error it is to play 41S-11N (Near 8-7(2), 6-5(2))? I see that move all the time even though it is such an obvious huge mistake that Stick hasn't even bothered to do a rollout.

The opening is the most important phase of the game. And, it may be the most difficult because it presents the most disparate choices. Still, the debate continues / Is it worth it to study the opening?
