"In order for the new test not to be biased, I'd have to run the 324 0/0 @6 for every move/cube decison in the 500 game series right?"
(NK) Yes..that's correct so if you're willing to do this, set that as you GNU rollout setting. It also won't take long to do.
"I can see you're trying to emulate XG Roller in GNU. (I've done the same)."
(NK) I just want to let all know that I am not trying to steal the XGR idea. I've had this idea since I first saw a prototype of JF back in '91.
"Here are my initial observations:
If you run XG Roller or GNU equiv on problems where you know there is a largish error factor as in the Depreli positions it will generally quite quickly find the best play. However if you run this type of eval on positions where say 2 (or more) choices are quite close it can often shuffle the moves around."
"So the question is do these small errors get outweighed by the large "obvious" errors XGRoller doesn't make by doing a truncated rollout?"
Michael
(NK) Agreed with those observations. I'm just looking to compare the strength of that 324 0/0 trunc setting to 4 ply so that I can use it when I want when studying my play and wanting quick feedback. I suspect others will want same. That being said as you point out, there will be times when 4 ply will make more sense.
