Swiss format strategy

Swiss tourneys in chess start with player rankings. If you completely follow the rules, the Swiss pairings in a chess tournament are as deterministic as the play. In backgammon Swiss events, we build cohorts only on record and then do random pairings.
Also, in chess, we presume that the better player will prevail almost all of the time. As we are all well aware, that is not the case in backgammon. (Ramen!) Put these differences together and it makes it very difficult to game the system in a BG Swiss event. Sure, by round 7 the stronger players will probably float to the top, but the probability of drawing a weaker player in rounds 2 and 3 by throwing the first match is not good.
