GNU vs XG walking in a prime

Manually—and it's a useful exercise—you could roll a prime from home board to home board all day long without ever letting a checker escape.
I did try this once. Well, I didn't spend all day, but I did about five or six walks of this length. The board cracked once but the checker didn't escape. I stopped because it didn't seem like I would get any meaningful statistics out of this exercise.
Did you really try this "all day"? Why do you think it's a useful exercise?
Writing the dynamic program would, I think, be a useful exercise. I did ask Art Benjamin and his reply indicated that his interests have moved away from backgammon. So if anyone else has a Master's student looking for a project, I think this is a good one.
