Happy, Healthy New Year

And Happy New Year to you. Here is what hit me this morning:
I woke up this morning ready to celebrate one of the most important Jewish holidays of the year. My plan was to take a nice walk with my wife this morning, spend a couple of hours in temple, and then have a family dinner celebration at Hillcrest Country Club tonight. A day devoted to family and my heritage and my God.
Then I got two text messages: one from a guy, let's call him FishA, and one from another guy, Fish B., both asking me if there is a game today and what time. (These are two of the biggest fish that have ever played backgammon in Chicago.)
Now, I am sure God would understand. I know that if I talked to the rabbi, he would give me a special dispensation, and he might even insist on a piece of my action.
This is a dilemma, akin to the "free pork" joke, except this is really happening.
I have decided to leave this in HIS glorious hands.
If God wants me to go to temple, I am sure he will send a limo (preferably stretch) to take me.
We shall see what plans the almighty has made for me today.
