In Response To: Miller's Small Stake Poker Example (Stanley E. Richards)

It took me entirely too long to decipher this hand. Maybe it's because I'm sick ... maybe because it wasn't clear. First of all I see no use in showing everyone's hand. They should pick a perspective and show the hand from that person's point of view.

After that why don't they show all the play? In other words, postflop Saxum & Erasmus check? It says Ginger raises $1 so does that mean one of them bet out and he raised them (which I don't believe is the case because it says after that ser calls $1) or that he bet $1? Why put 'raises' if he's simply betting?

Anyway ... on to the hand. You have to take a lot of these stakes/limits with a grain of salt. People will call a lot of preflop shit w/trash cards. They don't see it how they should, they see it as "$2 who gives a fuck". If you had the same players playing for meaningful stakes, they'd ditch Q7 suited preflop in a heartbeat [esp. to a raise!] At a full table, low limits, they might know they're getting better odds on their money since it seems everyone sees the flop in these games. A buck, two bucks, usually half the table is in.

After the 'bad' preflop call I'll go out on a limb and disagree completely with whoever the fuck 'Miller' is lol. If you're really wanting to play good poker you fold postflop!? Granted, raising is my 2nd choice, but you can't actually think you're going to push anyone out playing 1/2 or for that matter with 83 people to the flop that your 7Q is good. If you're going to stay in the hand, you should try to raise, narrow the competition, but what do you do when someone calls? You know the original raiser is calling at least, he has odds to chase regardless, and if someone else calls do you give up on the hand now? Q7 is so bad...
