I see a recommendation for Chrisloid. I hate them. I dislike all sets with a hard surface where the dice spin and spin and spin. It just doesn't have the right feel. I know many others feel the same way.
There really is an art to making a good board. The checkers have to fit perfectly or they slide around too much. The surface needs to have a little bounce in it so that the dice will bounce and assure a fair roll, but not too bouncy or they fly off the table. The checkers need to slide easily on the surface, but not too easy or they slide around. The surface needs to be the right kind of material or you will have to replace it often. The frame needs to be sturdy.
Another thing I don't like about the Chrisloid boards is that they are very deep...it's hard to see the dice from one side of the board over the very high center rail.
Herb Roman just bought a board from Carol Cole in the price range you are looking, and he searched for 6 months for the right board. I suggest you contact Carol and find out which board Herb bought...it's a good one for the money. http://www.flintbg.com/boutique.html
