I don't like letting white play freely with the small racing lead, lots of point making numbers and the chance for a bar point anchor. So, I would choose between 31H (Hit 13-10, 8-7*) and X (Hit and Split 24-21, 8-7*). I don't mind breaking the eight point much since it doesn't work well with the deuce anyway.

In general, X plays better after a return hit and H plays better when there is not a return hit. Having a builder on the 10 doesn't help much when we are on the bar. Playing X will usually leave two numbers which make an advanced anchor after being hit from the bar. In this case X also pressures the blot on the nine. Since we're leaving a lot of shots, I would play X.
