"2) There isn't much else to do with the 5. GNU does see 13/8 as a marginal improvement over not moving a 5 but probably because of the 5 pips that Blue picks up in the race. It isn't really a structural improvement. "

Did you roll this out, or just an eval? I know that I'd rather forego the 5 pips and not move the checker at all than play 13/8. I'm also curious, whether GNU thinks 13/8 is better because of gammons, or does it also win more?
