Rollout

In Response To: Robertie position 64 of 501 (Timothy Chow)

The "obvious" move here is 13/12*/8, which Robertie says is "careless." Instead, Robertie recommends 13/12* 7/3, to maximize builders for the 1-point.

GNU, however, seems to prefer 13/12* 8/4, which I find surprising. I've posted the rollout details on my website if you want to see them.

So, Daniel Murphy got the right answer, although either his edition of Robertie is different from mine or he misread something, because in my edition, Robertie does not even mention 13/12* 8/4. I'm not fully convinced by Daniel's explanation, though. It's true that after 13/12* 7/3, 66 is bad, but I can't believe that one bad roll is the main explanation here. As for keeping the bar point, I don't understand that fully either. It seems that Blue may be just as worried about clearing the bar point as with maintaining it. Any other suggestions as to what is going on? Maybe it's just a case of "clear from the rear and don't ask questions"?
