Since I so grossly misevaluated this position, I played it out several times as Stick suggested. What I found was, while Blue does have blitzing opportunities, that's far from the only gameplan Blue has, and perhaps it's not even the main one. It's not unlikely that Blue will make a 3-point board, with some outside points, and then White gets lots of checkers trapped behind Blue's prime. White has no ammunition to mount a counterattack even if White hits Blue a few times. Although White has a good chance of making an anchor in addition to the ace point, he is reduced to playing a difficult holding game or backgame, which is certainly not without chances, but requires a lot of patience and accurate checker play.
