always second best

Second best I can handle. It's the third, fourth and ninth best I try to avoid ;-
There are only three possible sixes.
20/14 gives up the anchor. Scratch that. [Stick articulates why that's not good now]
8/2 8/6 or 8/2 6/4 leave no shots but with the two stripped outfield points Blue's game seems likely to get harder and harder. I don't like it.
Which leaves 11/5.
With that, 13/11 loses a chunk of outfield control and gives White a double shot at an untouchable point. Most hitting numbers hit and cover. Scratch that.
11/9 minimizes hits and makes another builder for the 4 point but lets White hit with unduplicated 2s. 6/4 leaves a blot that will get hit more often but starts the point Blue wants to make, which is often a very good play. But 11/9 also gives Blue many ways (15/36) to make the 4 point. 11/9 is more flexible giving Blue 3 very playable checkers -- the 6- and 5-point spares on and the blot on the 9. 6/4 gives Blue aces and 7s to complete the 4 point; if Blue covers with an ace, the other number will have to be played from the 11.
I'd give the nod to 11/5 11/9 on flexibility, be not unhappy to have made a second best play here, and be glad if I've identified the top two plays.
