May I put a checker on the bar before moving my own?

Is it acceptable (according to the rules that most people play by), if I make a move that hits, to pick up the hit checker first and put it on the bar before I move my own checker?
No. I'd call the director if my opponent was in the habit of removing my checkers from the board before moving his own.
The idea is to forestall any accidents where I forget to put the hit checker on the bar before hitting the clock or picking up my dice.
If such forgetfulness is a problem (and really, even if it isn't), better to get in the habit of playing your checkers one die at a time: move (hitting), pick up the hit checker and place it on the bar, and then complete your move.
