i was convinced for some unknown reason that blue didn't mind getting hit in this position;so it could go after the blots.

Nah, one usually minds getting hit in mutual holding games. But return shots at home board and other blots may make getting hit less troublesome.

Concerning the homeboard blots in the original position, yes they matter. But I'd caution intermediate players that a blot or even two in the opposite homeboard is not a license to run wild. Often many of opponent's rolls that hit also cover.

I'd still play 11/9 11/5 in Michael's position. But now the other play in my top two would be the no-shot 8/6 8/2.
