May I put a checker on the bar before moving my own?

If you also at the same time move your hitting checker, then I would definitely not fuss about the exact order you move them in. That should be clear enough for everybody.

If you intend to first move my checker to the bar, then leave your own checkers put for thinking about your move, then I quite frankly do not see what you gain from not moving the hitting checker the hitting number at the same time. You can then leave it at the hit point, and think about the other half of the move.
