May I put a checker on the bar before moving my own?

Actually, I don't have any big objection to what you suggest. However, if you have the presense of mind to realize you are about to hit a checker and want to lift the hit checker to the bar first, it seems extremely difficult to me to be in this situation and not know that lifting the checker is part of your move, and fail to do it when you do it as the last part of your move. The hit-and-pass moves are probably the only ones that might be problematic where you could forget to put the checker on the bar.

If you were to lift the hit checker and then pause a long time about how to make the rest of the move (maybe there are two ways to hit), that would be annoying.

On a side subject, I have an opponent when he is on the bar that almost insists on bringing in his checker FROM the bar as the last part of his move. The rules specifically state this is wrong.
