I also don't doubt the original intentions of WSOB would have been marvelous for backgammon if it could have been pulled off. I have had numberous contacts with Andy over the years and always thought of him as a positive force in our community. But I think that it likely there were some aspects of the financing of this venture which were not solidly grounded from the outset. It could have related to investor commitments and attendance projections or a combination thereof.

I think that if there are any such uncertainties factored into the equation, they need to be tranparent at the outset. I mean the invitation and agreements with staff should clearly state what possible downside risks there are. If these possible negative outcomes can't stand the light of day, then the venture should not go forward.
