My OTB thinking and play

Clearly I have to slow down and think things through as plays like this do not come easy for me yet.

None of you made my play and that in itself reinforces I have so much to learn.

My first thoughts were to get the straglers home, but it quickly seemed awkward. My thoughts shifted thinking I have to unstack the heavy 6pt and I need landing spots when I bring the rest of my checkers home. This prompted 8/4(2)*, 6/4(2). This looked good to me and I figured I had time to bring the rest home pretty easy.

The dice gods punished me while laughing in my face. Several rolls later my opp had a 5pt board while I was forced to leave a double direct shot.

Backgammon is so cruel.

The question now; was my thought process that skewed to misplay it the way I did?
