Rich: Noting that the cube is still in the center, the thought should not be about what is needed to win this game, but how do we get enough of an advantage to cube when things go well, and how do we make the best of it when things do not.

Absolutely agree - make the 4pt.

I think I would have more debate on this if the prime was one point back (9-6, rather than 8-5) - then again, maybe not..

The 4pt looks good to me, and when white fans with both checkers, I can confidently start shovelling that cube around, hoping for a pleasing take.
