In Response To: Much Discussed Peoria Occurrence -- OTB (Bill Riles)

Hello! Just found this post... I have gotten bored with bgo. Anyway I was not giving you infinite grief about your redouble with Sean Garber....

I merely added it to our discussion about one of your habits. I have read infinite posts here where you say... I was not supposed to redouble leading 18-1/19... But I did it anyway... Wouldn't you know it???????? He rolled 5 double sixes in a row, while my highest number was 31. Then, of course I had to take the redouble cuz, well I was STILL 98% favorite... But OF COURSE, he rolled another set and I got the obligatory 21.

Anyway, when you have a lot of bad beat stories... often because you doubled or redoubled compulsively, then a PATTERN has emerged.

To emphaize my point, I referred to your CORRECT redouble of Sean... LEADING 8-4/11, in which you got a beat you were telling everyone about. IF you had NOT redoubled him, he would NOT have beaten you in that game. Sometimes it is still right to redouble... but you are not going to be as happy winning with that redouble, as you are going to be MAD if you lose as a result of it. Were you anxious to win the match against Sean because you considered him to be superior to you? I don't think so. The more of a favorite you are in a match the LESS you want to be escalating the stakes when you have a lead, even if the bot says you are right to do so. Would you have redoubled Larry Liebster? Did you see Matt's reaction to the double by Larry when he had a 2345 backgame? (!)

I gave you "infinite grief" because I wanted my friend to win his first ABT tournament. I thought it would save you from a bad beat story if you didn't get impulsive with the cube if you ever had a lead in that final match. That didn't happen, as it happens... But one time I walked up and you HAD doubled before you made a point in your home board. Even trailing in the match that is a highly suspect maneuver.

There will be no more grief given re: impulsive doubling/redoubling.

I will also not listen to the bad beat while leading by a mile stories anymore.
