Well, you probably found the best GammonGo play :)

When looking at moves like 8/4(2) you should try to remember that you're not really making a new point, you're merely trading in the 8-point for the 4-point, thus the move is not quite as strong as you might think. It is this same basic reason that 13/9(2) is strong, because you actually ARE making a new offensive point.
