I can't blame people for passing this, there's naught an area of the game where the taker has an edge. Down in the race, down in board strength, positionally he can't prime, he can't attack, so why is it still a take?! It's still a take because the race is close enough, it's still a take because if missed he'll have escaped all his back checkers (on the assumption he gets the blot to safety next turn, which of course he doesn't all the time) whereas his opponent, while up in the race, still has to extricate his remaining two checkers.
If you change the position (but not the race, only the duration of the race) so that the doubler has the 3pt made with one of the men from the 8pt and give White those 5 pips by playing 13/8 I think it's now a clear pass. That blot gives enough life after death too. With the 3pt made hits are more deadly, gammons shoot up a bit more, and it would be pass city for me.
