Is music allowed while playing?

I brought this very question up 10 days ago at the Norwegian Championships, and the TD & TC adopted a ruling pretty much equal to the Danish rule: In order to use headphones you must explicitly ask and get permission from your opponent.
I think however that it would be better to ban use of headphones completely. In addition to opening up possibilities of cheating, the use of headphones also open up for allegations of cheating, which may be just as damaging. Say, I reach the finals of a tournament, and actually goes on the win. The match is recorded and wonder of wonders, I played at an 0.9 ER - far below my usual ~ 6.0. Now if I had been using earphones plugged into my phone the entire match, how can I in retrospect defend myself against cheating allegations?
BTW, I also agree with Phil's points that cheating aside, playing music while playing can be taken as a sign of disrespect.
