Yes, coffee should be banned. If the smell is bothering your opponent. I you are sloshing it all over the place and maybe on to the board. If you are dribbling it down your chin and little drops of it hang while I am trying not to look and trying to figure out if I have a cube or not.
Wearing a red cap should be banned if it says "my opponent is a jerk" on it, or if it says "I beat Carter" and your name is Carter.
It is IMPOSSIBLE to put into the rules all the things that can happen in all situations. Head phones could be a distraction or take away from the dignity of the event in some situations, just as a cup of coffee could be. That is why we have a rule, and I believe in it, that the tournament director has the right and responsibility to decide what is best and fair even if something is not covered specifically in the rules.
I would stop you form listening to head phones, or drinking coffee, if it was done in a distracting manner or if your opponent had a legitimate reason to request that you stop.
