If not, how do you become alert for this kind of thing?

Opp has no development at all as he has not even brought a 5 down from his midpoint. The score is 3-away 2-away which is probably the best score available for playing on on a centered cube. Your G value on a 1-cube is high and if things go wrong his TP on a 2-cube is still quite high.

You have 11 checkers in the zone and a very strong blitz. All this points to a play-on.
