US Backgammon Players Group Update

Many people have asked me what is happening relative to this group, and I will be happy to keep you updated.

Many very prominent leaders have stepped up in support of the establishment of this group and have volunteered to take a leadership role. All have agreed that since Rod Covlin has already established the infrastructure for such a group, the most expedient way to get this off the ground is to use that infrastructure to establish an initial set of goals, bylaws, board of directors, and plan to move forward.

With Rod acting as initial director to get this organization, and with lots of support from volunteers to help, this will happen in the next few months. Please be patient as it takes time to get things organized properly.

I am sure you will see a lot of exciting activity next year including programs to promote backgammon to the general community, to kids in high school and college, and generally to support the existing clubs and tournaments to encourage greater participation as a result of this new organization and effort.

I again want to thank all of you who have stepped up in support of this idea--your support and encouragement is what has made this happen. The organization is in place and is expanding; we will have very top, respected people leading the way; we will finally see nationally-organized programs to promote backgammon in the many areas that have not been done in the past; and we will have an association of the players, themselves, working to encourage local club and national tournament participation.

Everyone interested and excited about this will have an opportunity to support this effort and to volunteer to be on national or local committees to help bring backgammon back into the limelight of the public and to help grow the game as we all hope to see it grow.

Thanks again for all of your support and patience while this is getting established.
