Except I knew I was a huge favorite (against 2-ply) and thought I might get the cube back again.

I think you can do better if you wait until the double/beaver/racoon/otter/aardvark/etc. sequence and win on a 1024+ cube. In certain cases you might not get the cube back again because GNU swings from TG to NGE.
