With a fixed j.s.d. threshold, or a fixed number-of-j.s.d.s threshold, you won't get this kind of a priori guarantee of the accuracy of the final total.

Just wanted to add that with a fixed j.s.d. threshold, you do get a kind of a priori guarantee of the accuracy of the final total, albeit not this kind. I'm not sure either kind is more desirable than the other.
