Rich: What matters is the equity gained from turning the cube compared with the equity if the cube were simply held and the game played out to the end. Are the redoubles efficient or not. Seems to me if you have the cubeless and cubeful equities from the rollout and can compute the theoretical 100% efficient cube equity then you know exactly how efficient the cube was on average in the given position.

A Gnubg cubeful rollout does not tell us what the equity would be if the cube were never turned and the game played out to the end.** Gnubg does not continue play past double/drop. Gnubg's evaluation of game breakdowns at those double/drop points are part of what it calls -- but isn't really -- "cubeless" equity.
