The final was not played on the clock.

This was an unsuccessful event IMHO.

This tournament was slow as pinesap in February. My third match commenced at 9:20 PM after a six hour delay.

The director didn't seem to know anything about the schedule or the rules of play, and also seemed apathetic about them. She didn't know the proper clock settings, for example (although they differed from the ABT standard), and told me to ask Bob about them. UBK was my opponent for the match in question, so I really didn't want to rely on him for the information. The director was not able to tell my dad what time the final was to be played.

Clocks were available but were not set, and nobody on staff knew how to set them. Indeed, the staffers were completely hopeless as to answering any kind of question whatsoever.

Staff had no extra playing boards. They had no calculator. The tournament provided no coffee. The ancillary room, which was used for the Corbett lecture, was way too small for that purpose, and Corbett was using a demo board from which the checkers kept falling to the ground.

The playing room was too crowded and the extra room was on a different floor which served to make it difficult to find opponents and/or tournament staff. It was nigh impossible to get to the drawsheet at the start of play.

The three hotel rooms I occupied were each disastrous in their own way, primarily due to water leaks throughout the facility. One room leaked from the closet ceiling. Another leaked through the door leading to the balcony.

The Calcutta auction was a complete clusterf**k, with the director switching players around hither and thither throughout, making it really hard for anyone to understand who was where on the sheet. As a result, the commencement of the event was delayed by 45 minutes or so.

I can't cover everything, but I thought the tournament staff and the director failed at pretty much everything required to run a tournament. I thought this was the worst-run ABT event I have ever attended, and I shan't be back, irrespective of whether I am banned.
