In Response To: Congratulations to Brent Cohen! (adambulldog)

This email is being sent to Adam Bennett and copied to those of you who post and read at BGO. I would post this there but I've forgotten my password and although I've written to Stick about it, he never responded.

Adam, I'm so sorry that you found so many things to complain about regarding the Mid-Atlantic Tournament. Most of the people at the tournament enjoyed themselves. I will address some of the things you have complained about.

The director didn't seem to know anything about the schedule or the rules of play I know everything there is to know about the schedule and the rules of play and if anyone had any question about the schedule, the brochure was posted in several places around the room.

She didn't know the proper clock settings Regarding the clocks, I have found that most TD's do not know how to program the clocks but there were plenty of people in the room knowledgeable enough to do this for me. This didn't seem to bother anyone else. The rules for the timing on the clocks were posted at this site by Barry Silliman and I'm sorry that you failed to pick up on that.

Staff had no extra playing boards. There was an ample supply of extra boards for those who needed one and they were used throughout the weekend.

The tournament provided no coffee Is coffee provided at every tournament?

The director was not able to tell my dad what time the final was to be played. Your father never personally asked me what time his match was to be played but on the tournament brochure, it was scheduled for 3 PM and he showed up at 2:50 PM to start his match. His opponent was waiting for him and the match was started promptly. Neither player expressed any problem with this. Why you should express dissatisfaction with this when you were not even involved is beyond me.

The Calcutta auction was a complete clusterf**k, I admit that the auction got a little complicated because of late arrivals, people with similar names and the fact that some players kept changing the division they were playing in. I apologize for that but it was something that couldn't be helped.

the staffers were completely hopeless as to answering any kind of question whatsoever.

What questions did you have that couldn't be answered?

The three hotel rooms I occupied were each disastrous in their own way Too bad you had this problem but this was the only complaint I heard about the sleeping rooms. And I hope you don't think this was my fault!

the commencement of the event was delayed by 45 minutes or so.

The tournament may have been delayed because the auction lasted a little longer than expected but the bracket sheets were posted within minutes after all the calcutta money had been collected.

I work for a year planning for this tournament and there is more work involved that you or many others realize. Adam, seeing some previous postings from you, I fully expected you to post a very nasty message about the Mid-Atlantic Tournament and I told my children so. And you did not disappoint me. Why don't you try running a tournament and then we'll all see how it's done!

I will be retiring as a Tournament Director and there will be an announcement shortly regarding this.
