We need to support ABT directors

I have enormous respect for both Adam and Elayne. I enjoyed the tournament and plan to return next year -- if there is a tournament.
There has been a lot of commentary on this site about how to promote our game, including to have more, bigger and better ABT events. While I am sure that most ABT tournaments could be improved (including Mid-Atlantic), our tournament directors need our support. Without them we wouldn't have ABT events. They devote lots of volunteer hours and take signficant financial risks. If directors like Jeb Horton, Steve Hast, Elayne Feinstein and others retire from directing then we will have less ABT events (thankfully, Rob has done a great job stepping up in Pittsburgh). At Denver, which had a low turnout, Harvey Gillis and and Ray Fogerlund had the terrific idea of passing the hat to help Lynda with expenses. I kicked in and many other players did too.
We need to provide constructive support for our directors for our ABT events to get better. This could include helping with expenses, sponsoring a side event (like Frank Talbot does for Michigan), providing trophies, helping with clocks (particularly if we want to use clocks more regularly), generating publicity and encouraging greater attendance. Even providing quiet and constructive criticism in a non-threatening manner can be helpful.
