We need more directors not fewer.
Perhaps, in the instances where required, constructive suggestions and offers to help are far more beneficial than complaining. (no offense to Adam, I respect him a lot)
The hospitality fees are fine. The sponsorships of events, trophies, etc. by some of the players are wonderful in helping offset some expenses -- I know Frank Talbot and Sandy Kaplan have helped in Michigan for years; I think Ray and Norm Wiggins have sponsored trophies in LA before; others have sponsored coffee, snacks, etc. (no small investment at a hotel); and I'm sure there are others I'm not aware of or who have done things like that anonymously. Ray and Harvey passing the hat for Lynda at Colorado was fine.
Let's all try to be more helpful and constructive as we can.
As an aside, I saw a letter where one guy was complaining about calcutta incentives in Peoria because it drove up the cost of his buyback. How shallow !! This is another important source of revenue to the directors, why forsake them a few extra bucks?
And, unless there is an outrageous difference, I think players should always stay at the tournament hotel. Again, this enables the director to negotiate better deals (for the playing room, for the hotel rooms, etc.) each year because of an increase in the number of room nights to the hotel.
It's the little things. We pay attention to them over the board, we should pay attention to them for the rest of the tourney too.
