Relative to that letter:

1. Higher prices don't hurt him, as he could buy back for half as just about any buyer would let him; 2. The goal of the auctioneer is to get the prices up as high as possible for the benefit of the directors...they need the rake to help make some money; 3. In Peoria, there were only a couple of extra prizes for buyers...one was for the first team and one was to encourage bidding on the last....I doubt it had much affect on the price the teams went for; 4. NO MATTER WHAT YOU DO AT A BACKGAMMON TOURNAMENT, THERE WILL BE SOMEONE THAT DOESN'T LIKE IT. (For example, many liked my trivia questions. A couple said it was a waste of time. One said they liked the idea but didn't like the questions. One said I should have had more. One said I had too many. Someone said they should have been easier, etc. etc. etc.)
