Thanks for your thoughts. This was my thinking: Blue has more checkers back and a stronger board. Both players have blots lying around. Blue wants to gain a tempo in the blot-hitting contest that seems likely to develop, and increase the chances of sending back another White checker. Therefore Blue should draw first blood with 7/1* rather than allow White to take the initiative.

Why do you think that this plan is too aggressive? Doesn't the position call for an aggressive play?
