In Response To: Time to stir the cauldron again... Appeals committee (Chuck Bower)

There are many rules I don't like. But I like that we have rules, and I believe it is important that we all abide by the rules. I have a lot of respect for Pat and Howard, but they should be held to the same standards. There are rules which include the right to appeal, and they should live by them.

As for the specific issues;

1. I have had and seen bad rulings from directors in the past and can give examples;

2. If Howard makes a ruling and the appeals committee overturns it, EVEN IF HOWARD DISAGREES WITH THE RULING, nobody will blame Howard for the ruling. So he is not to blame if anyone objects to the ruling. If anything, this appeal takes some pressure off the director.

3. If a ruling is made that Howard doesn't like, so what? That's life. Just because he is made tournament director doesn't mean he is made judge and jury. If you are going to run a tournament with established rules that have been agreed to by directors and players all over the world, you should not have the right to pick and choose which ones you want. It's a very bad precedent and makes every rule arbitrary and suspect.
