Of course you are entitled to your opinion, but many of us, including myself, believe that it is best if we play with the same rules all over the world. Most other major games and sports do this for obvious reasons. When you go to Vegas you may not mind if the rules are different from other places, but people who travel all over the country and the world are best served if the rules are consistent.

Secondly, seeing that we have clear, concise, consistent rules is a very high priority for me, and has been for many years. I am sorry you do not believe it is that important, but again, you are entitled to your opinion. I have spent a lot of time and effort working to improve the rules and regulations in other sports, games, and associations, and I know how important good rules are to ensure the fair play and enjoyment for all. To me, this is a very high priority.

Third, I am certainly not against debating rules and ideas here...I do it a lot myself and I agree that we can all get some interesting insights and perspectives as a result. What I refused to do was list all of my thoughts on all of the rule changes I feel are required so that they can be openly debated in a public forum simply because Rory Pascar wants to do that. I don't have enough time to explain and defend my choice of semantics on 15 different rule change proposals. There is not enough ink on this site.

Forth, you referred to "your organization" as if I am taking control of what the federation might do. There is an association forming that I support, and I hope all the players and directors in the US will support it. I am neither a director nor leader of this association, but simply a person encouraging it to happen. I certainly hope they will allow me to serve on a rules committee if and when they choose to have one.

I find it difficult to understand why you, or anyone, would discourage someone willing to give their time and effort to try to make the rules more consistent and clearer. This may be an issue that is not important to you, but that doesn't mean it is not important to a lot of others. I assure you, if you took a poll of the tournament players, you would get a HUGE MAJORITY that would say we should have clear, consistent rules, and a HUGE MAJORITY would prefer that the rules of backgammon in the U.S. be consistent with those around the world.
