but people who travel all over the country and the world are best served if the rules are consistent.

"Consistent," Phil, is not the same as "identical." But you wrote that you think "rules need to be standardized internationally," that everyone should "agree on a clear, precise set of rules." And that is what I'm saying is not important.

The rules used at international tournaments are already "consistent." They differ in minor details. Let's remember that many of the rules sets used outside the USA were originally based on the ABT rules. But then they were changed, in ways that the changers thought improved the rules. What do think -- that those people, quite happy with the rules they've improved, the organizations that they nurture, and the tournaments they run, are somehow waiting for you and/or some "USA players organization" to come along and save them from their inconsistencies?

While I'm on it, what's up with equating WBA with national organizations like DBgF and JBL? Far as I know, the "WBA" is Chiva K. Tafazzoli, who organizes five or six tournaments every year. I wish him the best, but he gets no extra credit for having put the word "World" in his organization name. If you want to improve WBA's rules, Phil, why not have a chat with Chiva?

seeing that we have clear, concise, consistent rules is a very high priority for me, and has been for many years. I am sorry you do not believe it is that important, but

Don't put words in my mouth, Phil. Any rules set should be well-written. What I don't believe is at all important is that the Danish, UK, American, French, German, Italian, Norwegian, Swedish, etc. rules all be the same.

I find it difficult to understand why you, or anyone, would discourage someone willing to give their time and effort to try to make the rules more consistent and clearer

Again, you'd really be better off not wasting your time and mine arguing with straw men. I have never discouraged anyone from "trying to make rules more consistent and clear." Quite the opposite. But I would certainly encourage anyone who thinks that imposing uniform rules globally is of great importance to rethink his position.

Let me put it this way: if my goal was:

Encourage more players to attend more U.S. tourmanents

and I were to think of 30 ways to accomplish that goal, imposing uniform rules globally wouldn't be on the list.
