Hi Phil,
This problem has come up many times over the years, and I don't know if Latto got it named for him because he first thought of it, or because he made it famous. Here is a link from 2000 containing my example of it:
I like this example because it's easy to see how it arose. X had an ace point game with a third checker that never got in, O never made his 4 point, was forced to strip the 6 and 5 points, then rolled the infamous 65.
For the purpose of this thread it was given this name because Zorba read about it in Janowski's paper, though from what Zorba says Janowski didn't claim its ownership. (I also read Janowski, but like most people I think, didn't understand a word of it.)
