Time to stir the cauldron again... Appeals committee

I don't like the rule either.
1) It saves a lot of time in a situation that doesn't matter most of the time...instead of your figuring out all the odds on what gets you off, the game moves quickly. If I roll doubles, it didn't matter how you moved your checkers. 2) Once in a while it does matter...getting to see the next roll will save you a gammon. I would say it helps maybe 1 out of 10 times, tops. But that's fine, because we are keeping someone from getting hurt too badly and in the long run, it evens out.
I have no problem with you, the person with 4 checkers left on the ace, rolling before I figure out my play. As you say, you roll doubles, game over, no need to think about the play. However, if you don't roll doubles, the person should have to figure out and choose a play ...it's ridiculous to me to give them 'their best' in the sense that you do and think in the long run it somehow evens out.
