I find all this debate about our rule somewhat humorous. If we had a rule that you have to hop on one foot whenever you roll double sixes, and the majority of our players liked this rule, isn't that our business? Aren't we entitled to have this rule without people telling us that this is not backgammon? Or that this is bad for the game?

We've been playing for over 20 years, and I believe we've had this particular rule for over 10, and it works great for our particular chouette...never causes problems or delays and we all love it.

No one has to play in our chou...in fact, there's a couple of people in Chicago who don't like our rule about no consulting until there is a 4 cube, and they don't come. That's their business. If we had consulting, I wouldn't come (because of the makeup of this particular game and the amount of arguing and slowness of the game.)

If you don't like the rule and you come to our chouette and you object strongly, we would probably be nice guys about it and suspend the rule while you are there if you felt strongly enough about it. Or if we felt strongly about a rule, you'd have to watch (or find a heads up or separate game, which happens some times as well).

Now, let's not confuse chouette rules with tournaments rules.....I strongly believe there should be consistency in tournaments. God forbid individual tournament directors decide to arbitrarily change rules any way they fell like it and take away basic human rights (like the right to appeal).

I believe people have the right to criticize and pass judgment on tournament rules. Tournaments are public, open events. Chouettes are private affairs.
