Sure, but "the rules" that both players and director must abide by are the ones that the director makes in advance for the tournament he directs. If Pat uses a modified ABT rules set, he's not setting a double standard, and he's not setting a new precedent.
As far as I know, directors of ABT-sanctioned tournaments are not required to use ABT rules without modification. Howard Markowitz uses a modified ABT rules set, so does Pat Gibson, so did Mike Fujita in San Diego in the mid nineties.
Do all other current ABT directors use the USBGT rules posted at chicagopoint.com without modification?
