Beaver vs. Extras

Requiring the lone taker to take extras has a lot of advantages over requiring the lone taker to beaver. These reasons also apply favoring extras rather than simply not allowing anyone to take alone, a rule I haven't seen in years.
1. It doesn't force the lone taker who is right, to make additional calculations as to whether it is better to beaver or drop a clear take. This has happened to me, though only on one occasion. I ended up calculating (as best I could do, given that I had to make assumptions about a lot of stuff) and figured it was a skinny pass, so I beavered it and won. Fun times, but it's still a stupid concept, and it didn't "speed up the game" or get anyone else into action any faster.
2. It gives those who might be complaining about lack of action, a chance to get some that presumably is in their favor, if they honestly believe the position was a pass.
3. It nixes a chance at corruption creeping in, when 2 or 3 weak players pass a weak player in the Box, just to prevent the strong Captain from getting the Box against 3 or 4 weak opponents. This might happen without any conscious or pre-arranged corruption, especially if they all think the take/pass decision is a close call.
