In Response To: History of Jacoby rule (Timothy Chow)

The first written mention of the rule that I know of is in Jacoby and Crawford's "The Backgammon Book" (1970) where the authors describe the Jacoby rule as a "fairly common modification". However most other books from the early 1970's don't even mention the rule. Magriel's book "Backgammon" says "Players can agree before the game begins" to use the Jacoby rule, suggesting that the rule was not yet standard in 1976.
