I still think that for the purposes of conceptual clarity, it is better to compute what you want to compute (or to put it another way, to describe correctly what it is you've computed) than to compute one thing and claim that it is something else, even if the difference is usually small. (Now, if honesty were computationally infeasible then I would not be such a purist, but computational intractability is not a problem here.)
Since Xavier is making the effort to implement a new feature in XG, now is the time to get it right.
